With 2-Step Verification, or two-factor authentication, you can add an extra layer of security to your account.

Enable 2-Step Verification

Open your
Google Account

Tap Security & sign-in.

Under “How you sign in to Google” select 2-Step Verification.

Authenticator

Tap Set up authenticator.
Google Authenticator is an application itself, however you do not have to set it up in order to complete this guide. Avoid Google's instruction and move to step 2.

Set up 2-Step Verification

Choose "Can't scan it?" .

Copy and enter your key in the field below and click
Generate.

Go back to Google Authenticator page and press Next.

Enter the 6-digit code code you see on this page below and press Verify.

Near “Turn on 2-Step Verification” select Turn on.

Make sure that Authenticator is on and tap Turn on 2-Step Verification
Generated codes expire. If the code no longer works, go back to this page, and copy a new one.

Get Backup Codes

Tap Get backup codes.

Enter any two backup codes down below.

Tap Activate 2FA at the bottom of this page.
Make sure you never share backup codes with anyone. Keep it in secure and safe place.
